Hydrocodone is used to relieve pain, and is often used when similar non prescription drugs prove inadequate. Hydrocodone, in combination with acetaminophen, can provide better pain relief at lower doses than when each medicine is used alone. Hydrocodone, is a narcotic type drug, and removes pain by acting areas in the spinal cord and brain that process pain signals from nerves throughout the body. Acetaminophen can interfere with the action of prostaglandins, substances in the body that cause inflammation and make nerves more sensitive to pain impulses.
